From dry-dock access to reinstatement.

The final method and inspection points are matched to the vessel, shaft arrangement, rudder design and survey requirements.

Plan & prepare

Confirm isolations, access, lifting points, scaffolding and the controlled removal sequence.

Disconnect

Remove coupling bolts, dismount the coupling and prepare the propeller and shaft arrangement.

Withdraw & handle

Withdraw the tailshaft using controlled lifting and handling, then transfer components for inspection.

Inspect & measure

Support shaft calibration, taper and key inspection, NDT and stern-tube bearing measurements as specified.

Repair & prepare

Complete or coordinate agreed machining, cleaning, component repairs and sealing-arrangement work.

06

Rudder work

Open inspection access, address locking arrangements and pintle work, and dismount the rudder when required.

07

Reinstall

Return components to the vessel, refit the shaft, coupling, propeller and rudder items included in scope.

Check & hand over

Complete agreed clearances, alignment checks, records and practical handover evidence.

Following removal, the propellers and corresponding shaft components were transferred to the workshop. The tapers and propeller hub bores were cleaned and prepared, with engineer’s blue used to assess the mating contact pattern during progressive trial fitting.

Can Naude Industries remove and reinstall a vessel tailshaft?

Yes, subject to the vessel arrangement, dry-dock access, lifting requirements and agreed scope. Work can include coupling and propeller activities, shaft withdrawal, transfer for inspection and controlled reinstatement.

Do you complete tailshaft measurements and NDT?

Dimensional checks, shaft calibration and access for NDT can be included or coordinated. The required inspection method, acceptance criteria and attending authority must be confirmed for the project.

Can rudder removal be included?

Yes. The scope may include inspection access, pintle locking arrangements, rigging, rudder dismounting, lowering and reinstatement according to the vessel design and agreed method.
